Who’s your landlord?

So as follow up from yesterday….remember…health and doing all for the glory of God and such…

Another passage that we looked at was 1 Corinthians 6:19

Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own?      NASB

And then there is this wording….

Or didn’t you realize that your body is a sacred place, the place of the Holy Spirit? Don’t you see that you can’t live however you please, squandering what God paid such a high price for? The physical part of you is not some piece of property belonging to the spiritual part of you. God owns the whole works. So let people see God in and through your body.      The Message

The passage was used in the sermon and is often used by Christians to address our motivation for taking care of our health, but in fairness the passage does fall in the context of sexual sin.

However…it definitely CAN be applied to our choices about what we eat, drink, how we live, how we handle stress…again…our physical, emotional, mental and spiritual wholeness…health…completeness…

And as I reflected on it yesterday, I remembered a time when some friends were going on vacation and offered us the use of their home for the week. Our well had gone dry and we were on the waiting list for digging a new one.

We had two small children…they had three…so their home was comfortably used and well loved by their family…

but it was not our home and so we spent the week simultaneously enjoying the benefits of running water and cautioning our two active girls to be careful with furniture, floors and walls.

We certainly maintained our own home and were not destructive, but we were exceptionally aware and respectful of this home that had been so generously offered to us by our friends out of love and concern for us.

And that’s how this redeemed body I live in is.

It is no longer mine.

It belongs to God.

Redeemed because He loved me…purchased at a high price…it is His.

Makes me want to stand up a little straighter…be more thoughtful about what I fuel it with…physically…emotionally….mentally … spiritually…

That whatever you see, or don’t see, lets you know who I belong to.

Yes…it makes me think.
