When the task is just out of arms length….
This morning I had to change a light bulb in one of the bathroom sconces.
I could reach it, if I stood on my tip toes and leaned against the sink to help me stretch.
Oh, it was a struggle, but I finally got the old one out. Trying to balance the small shade that rests on the post whilst screwing the new bulb in proved more challenging. But I persisted.
Finally when I realized my arm was going to sleep, I walked the 7 feet from that bathroom to my closet and brought out the step stool I keep in there to reach the top shelf. In seconds, at the right height, I easily positioned the shade and inserted the bulb.
Voila! Let there be light.
There is nothing wrong with my light changing skills. I am simply not physically tall enough to manage the task without the right height enhancer.
And this is like prayer.
I see all kinds of needs and brokenness around me. Some needs are within my range, and those are the ones I must be obedient to serve. But I am physically and spiritually unable to fix some of the tougher ones.
So I pray.
I go to the only One who can work the change and the transformation that is needed. I stoop down and lift up the requests for help for others and for myself to the only One who can provide, protect, promote, correct…whatever is called for in that life that is a burden on my heart.
Prayer is a gift. Remember to fetch it when you are facing overwhelming odds. And even in the routine every day perplexities and frustrations. Don’t try to manage it alone. You were not made for that.
Have a wonderful weekend.
You are dearly loved <3
