Thursday Randoms <3

Well, here we are with a Random Thursday.

As insider information, I actually jot random ideas down as they come to me on a calendar or in my phone and the end up here. You are welcome.

So let’s go.

Random #1

While we were in Florida, I was talked into playing pickle ball with Russ and a couple of friends who staying down there not too far from where we were. It was fun and I survived, but I have no desire to risk yet another injury trying to move in various directions in quick succession whilst trying to hit a ball over a low net.

As we volleyed back and forth and mastered some of the rules I realized that the reason this sport is good for us older folks is the mental effort put into the scoring and serving rules definitely will ward off dementia. They say puzzles and working math problems helps with that and the constant changing of positions and trying to remember the succession of three different numbers in the score keeping does keep one on her toes.

I also discovered….

As we were losing, I found myself not liking losing and yet having absolutely nothing rising up in me to cause me to push harder to win.

So I said as we took a water break that while I am not competitive, I hate losing.

The male half of our couple friends pointed his paddle at me and challenged me to say that again, which I did and then he gave a kind of AHA!!! And said basically….so you ARE competitive.

Hmmmmm….

What do you think?

And believe me, when I have time I will be googling the definition of “competitive” but I disagreed.

To me, to be “competitive” means you have a drive to win. I just want to win so I didn’t lose. I don’t necessarily want to get better or be more skilled, I just want to win. It’s more fun.

So chew on that one for a while and let me know.

Russ and I went to watch the local college in our town play basketball tonight against the local college in our home away from home town up north.

We don’t know anyone on either team but thoroughly enjoyed watching these kids play. It was neck and neck from start to finish.

Our team lost.

I don’t want to talk about anymore.

I am working on reading the second book in the Lord of the Ring series and sometimes I just have to stop and go back over a paragraph. Tolkien has such a way with words that it’s like passing by a breathtaking view that you just have to stop and stare at for a while.

The descriptions of scenery and characters are masterpieces of wording. And I marvel at the imagination of the author as he was able to think up this whole story and carry it through word by word, chapter by chapter.

Good writing is like painting a picture with words and he truly is a master artist.

In my opinion, anyway.

And on a really shallow note….I read somewhere you can use coconut oil to remove makeup before you wash your face.

It’s amazing.

I use the one from Doterra and just pour some in my hands and wash my face like I was using water.

It is a game changer as it softens my skin, removes the makeup (including mascara) and rinses off when I finish with a mild facial cleanser.

Don’t look at me like that, I warned you these were random thoughts.

Have a great Thursday and I will see you tomorrow <3
