That time between <3

Well, it is another busy week around here as summer sports collide with end of year concerts and such. They call it “Maycember” now and I can’t think of a more accurate depiction.

I remember our own roller coaster experiences of the end of school year/beginning of summer and it hasn’t gotten any easier.

This morning I chatted a bit with Rachel and she was sharing that each of the band of brothers and our Sweet Caroline are processing the shift in different ways.

It’s a lot.

For myself, I can remember dancing the line between so happy they would be home all day, every day and panic on how we would fill those days without boredom, fighting, and bankruptcy.

The reality of this summer season hit me the other day when I saw a post offering a weekly activity for your kids for summer. Things like a surprise outing, doing a small service project, and a variety of other fun things to give each week something to look forward to were all great ideas.

However; as I looked at the list, I noticed it isn’t that long. There really aren’t that many weeks to summer. For us, there are about ten before we will be kicking in to preparing to go back to school…pools closing early…practices for fall sports starting up.

Ten isn’t very much when you think how fast a week flies by.

And maybe that’s why we are struggling to make the transition.

I remember well, for me, I was acutely aware of how fast the summer would slip by and then they would be another year advanced in school, another year closer to the launch.

Transitions are tender.

Be kind to yourself and to others.

Make each day count as best you can.

Plan ahead and plug in the activities and meet ups that will matter most when you look back.

Embrace white space and remember that boredom doesn’t kill us…it is there to inspire us to become creative and to give us places to slow down and rest a bit.

Which won’t be happening today, as I need to get moving ASAP!

Miles to go yet in this day.

God bless you as you figure out what Summer 2024 will look like <3
