Randoms for Wednesday

Random #1

Wednesdays have always had a special something about them. Maybe it is the halfway point factor. Maybe it is that the actives of my schedule are usually kind of fun. Maybe it’s the name; as a child, I loved the name Wednesday because I would think Wed-nes-day when I said it.

During this current season, Wednesday is a shortened class period day. We shave about ten minutes off of each session.

Just another reason to love Wed-nes-day.

I actually finished reading two books this month and I am super excited to share them.

Book report day is Friday.

Don’t miss it.

Emmet was assigned to the 7th grade team this year along with several others in his grade.

While he definitely exhibited his nature by receiving a good share of fouls despite huge amounts of playing time, he was all in for his team.

He never complained, attended practices and gave his all.

We were, as we always are, proud of him and we loved watching these boys compete this year.

Last night was the first game of regionals. Our Cyclones battled hard against a team of bigger boys and while the scoreboard was not in our favor, we were delighted to see #22 go in for the last few minutes.

Instead of fouling, he was fouled and made the final point of the game for his team.

Not all losses are defeats.

It was a Disney as his free throw sailed beautifully through the net…we may have cried.

We heard a great sermon on forgiveness last Sunday.

I chatted with a friend this week about it and we decided that sometimes just being disappointed can feel like unforgiveness.

When people let us down or don’t meet our expectations, the result is a kind of bitterness that is a twin to someone outright hurting us.

I have been examining my reactions to certain people and situations to see if there is a root of bitterness.

If I find one, I am thankful for the teaching I received and am implementing it in doing some soul cleaning.

The sermon is here https://vimeo.com/firstdecatur and worth a listen.

Or seventy times seven.

Having this opportunity to be in a classroom setting and given the small number of students I work with has been eye opening to me.

My work load is about 1/3 of what most classroom teachers deal with and it takes up an enormous amount of my physical and mental time.

I am working around only 18 students total. All the personalities, handwriting skills, learning challenges, absences, moods, work ethic, late work times 18 is giving me a whole new appreciation for those who are educators.

Thank a teacher today. Get involved in some way to help in a classroom if you can. Pray for our schools, teachers, administrators and our kids.
