On old Cape Cod…it’s really a thing I guess

Well, welcome back if you decided to brave another visit.

And if you weren’t here yesterday, I am sharing some things from our trip out to the Northeast this past week. I have debated the best way to do this, and have landed on just sharing it as it unfolded…a few of the highlights and bits and pieces of where we stayed and what we experienced so if you go that way sometime, you may have a starting point.

We flew into Providence, Rhode Island and rented a car to drive along the coast towards our first night’s stay in Braintree/Boston area. After we got settled in our hotel we realized there was still plenty of day left and we were only an hour’s drive to Cape Cod and the Hyannis Port area.

It was too good to pass up a chance to see this famous place, so we hopped back in the car and drove out to the “Cape”.

I googled directions to Cape Cod thinking it was a city, but learned the whole huge hook shape piece of land sticking off into the ocean is actually called Cape Cod. Sometimes I think maybe I should have payed better attention to lessons taught in geography and such.

The Hyannis area was quite congested with tourists walking and cars moving slowly. We settled for parking in a public area by a JFK memorial and walking along the water and then on up into the main business area of Hyannis Port.

We found a fun place to eat called Spanky’s Calm Shack (obviously) where I had my first Lobster Roll of the trip and my life. It was amazing.

Russ opted for the shrimp cocktail and a caesar salad. Also very good.

The restaurant was quite crowded and many people were waiting for a table, but all of them wanted outside seating. Since we were content to go inside, we were seated right away and had a great view of the harbor from our table.

I didn’t take a photo of that as there was the cutest young couple sitting at the table between us and the window. They looked like they were on a date and even I know taking a picture that included them would be kind of creepy…at least I learned some lessons growing up if not geography.

After dinner we walked back to the park and enjoyed seeing the quaint houses with lights glowing from porches and trees. It was a fun start to the trip.

Today’s is short because we have a full day with our little people and have an early start.

Check back tomorrow for the next installment. Kind of like a cliff-hanger, right?

See you soon <3
