Having a moment here…

www.laurareimer.net

Last Sunday, Zach took Graham to an early morning soccer game. Rachel was following with the rest of the family a little behind them as all three boys were in a tournament. It was a long day for them.

We had a full day at home so were sitting out the festivities, but always grateful for photos and updates on scores.

Zach sent a photo as he sat along the sidelines waiting for Rachel and company to arrive that took my breath away. He posted on social media, but I wanted you to see as well so asked permission and was granted the right to share.

Photographs speak to me and this one has had much to say. I think it is one of the most powerful photos I have seen <3

I have pondered how to share appropriately a few of my thoughts. There have been many but just narrowing down to a few this morning for the post.

Every time I look at this photo, my heart is moved. The lone figure of our firstborn grandson shrouded in the heavy fog of a midwest fall morning stirs my thoughts.

I think of the drive over as his dad navigated the low visibility. I think of the early mornings and late nights it takes to raise a family. I think of Zach sitting there watching his son and while Graham is keenly watching the field, he knows his dad is there.

Graham is in the goal, I can tell by his shirt. I know he is peering down the field trying to make out the figures of his team and the opponents. Maybe he can see them, maybe he can’t.

I also know without a doubt, he is trying to be ready for when they come burning out of the mist. Because if I know one thing about him, when there is a ball involved, he is focused and alert.

The lines of the field are hard to distinguish and he has to go by what he knows is there. His team may be hard to distinguish from the other guys in the fog, but he knows them and how they work and how that ball will be moving.

So much of life will have times like that for him.

Things will become blurry and hard to see. But I pray he remembers what he has been taught about the field and the game and when he can’t see it, he will walk by and play by and do the thing by faith and not by sight.

And I hope he knows we are cheering him on. Whether we are in a chair or bleacher, staying close to our phones for updates or peering down from heaven with the rest of the cloud of witnesses some day, we have your back, kid.

Always and forever, amen <3

  1. This brought me to tears. I often think about how our Heavenly Father looks down on us and he always knows exactly where we are and what we need.

    1. Thank you sweet friend. I am sharing this comment for anyone who might read it so that one will know this truth. He is there for us always. And He knows us and loves us as His child <3
