Countdown to Christmas 2024…Day 24
Anybody else a fan of the version of A Christmas Carol with George C. Scott as Scrooge?
One of my favorite scenes is when Fezziwig closes up shop on Christmas Eve and everyone prepares for the party.
I always feel like there is a point in the preparations when I realize that I have done the best I can and it is time to just put away the ideas didn’t happen and start the festivities. I reached that point late afternoon yesterday when the house was as clean as it has been for quite some time.
I even restrung the lights on the bushes that corner our patio so that they will be in full glow tonight. The table is set and except for some olives to go in my fancy olive tray, everything is pretty much ready to be set out.
We had unexpected and unwanted illness creep in on some of our favorites. Another favorite hung back in Austin and we will visit him right after the New Year.
It will be a smaller party, but a party, none the less.
The table above is in our downstairs. This one is for today.
That’s my mom’s old table cloth in the top photo. I look at it every Christmas and ponder dragging it out. It doesn’t really fit any of our tables, but this year I decided to let it be a part of the downstairs trim.
It harkens back to my childhood. My mom made Christmas so special and fun for us. She loved holidays and so did her family. She passed this along to me and I hope and pray the generations after us will understand what it means to keep Christmas well…all year.
I do things more simply than the generation that raised me. The food is not roasted and there are no fancy desserts and jello salads. It is kid friendly and geared towards favorites of as many as I can hit.
Crock pot soups and bowls of snacks will be the fare for the day.
And it will all be over far too quickly.
God bless us, every one <3
