A Rainy Road Trip <3
It’s pouring rain here on the prairie and has been for over 24 hours. We are soggy and I am hoping and praying the farmers are finished enough that this is a good thing and we can dry out a bit and wrap up the harvest.
Yesterday Russ and I took a road trip to St. Louis to visit Sarah, Jack and Rocco. The old boy (Rocco, not Jack) is slowing down and gazed so intently into my eyes for the longest time I decided I needed to capture his sweet face for the day.
When you love a dog, there is something tender about how they will make eye contact with you. Our Maxwell pup Lucy is same. For those who are dog people, you understand that tender place these furry friends can hold in the heart.
Sarah made us a fantastic meat loaf. And if you are not a meat loaf fan, judge not those of us who are. This one took her quite a bit of time as she was using a new recipe book she is working through like chef in training. She had to work all morning mincing and prepping ingredients for a special sauce that is part of what turned out to be one of the best meat loaves ever.
After lunch we went to The Hill. They took us to a place called Shaw’s Coffee. It is a quaint and fairly large coffee shoppe housed in an old bank. We stepped into “The Vault” and discovered four leather chairs arranged in the corners of an artistically revamped security box vault.
Like it was made for us.
We sat and sipped our drinks and talked like we were all on vacation, which we were as our two teachers were on a four day weekend from school.
It reminded me of France where people seem to prefer sitting with coffee and conversation rather than ordering to go and drinking it on the run.
After that we visited an Italian grocery store and a bakery. While we did make a few purchases in each, I want to have a recipe in mind and return to buy some of those amazing Italian canned tomatoes and yummy looking pastas, the right bread and of course…dessert.
Another day, another trip.
Soon I hope.
Never enough time with people and a pup we love <3
