The 7-7-7 Challenge

If you are up for it, check out Ann Graham Lotz website for the 7-7-7 challenge. It is a call to 7 days of guided prayer for our nation. The first day’s email arrived this morning and it is powerful. And, so like God, quite convicting.

Because I see all kinds of need of repentance in this nation.

But today, it started with me.

Why is it so easy to miss my own sin?

I cringe when I see or hear references to the need for a drink at the end of a rough day. I know what a stronghold alcohol can become and I fear it has become a panacea in many.

But I fail to see that the same need exists in me to medicate and comfort and soothe…it can be a coffee or that little Dove dark chocolate treat I look forward to at the end of the day.

None of those things are wrong, in and of themselves. It’s the motive leading to it.

If it’s what I need to take the edge off.

If it’s what I seek to ease pain or wash away irritation.

If it’s something I have to have to make up for something I didn’t want to have. Or something I got that I didn’t want. Or something I think I missed out on.

It’s wrong.

In today’s prayer guide, I took time to truly meditate and focus on the worship at the introduction. And by doing this, I was so aware of the Holiness of God, that it became much easier to see the unholiness in me.

It was all very convicting, but I think this line was the one that jumped out at me the most…

  • We repent of complaining as we wring our hands in despair, thinking our nation and our world are falling apart when they are really falling into place—right at Your feet.

May God bless you as you allow the Holy Spirit to work in you today <3
