Hiking Sedona Randoms <3

Well, it is Wednesday and I am pressed for time.

What a surprise.

To no one.

So I am opting for five randoms regarding our hiking experience around Sedona:

Random #1

There are a variety of trails and each has a level of difficulty. Our concierge provided several maps and assessments. All of them varied. The trail heads are easier to find than the ones in Acadia, but still not the easiest to locate.

The skill levels need to be taken with a grain of salt and current weather conditions in mind. We were on what was considered a moderate trail on the Airport Loop when we came to a sheer rock face covered with a little gravel path.

We declined, exited and met young men on bikes who were heading around the same trail.

To each his own.

I choose life.

Random #2

Most trail heads have a small parking lot. You have to pay for these. The price is fairly low and works in other parking lots for the day.

We saw where you can park and walk to the trail, but these were usually a fair distance away.

As mentioned, the lots are small and you will be joined by many hikers so you may have to circle the lot a few times to get a spot. Also be prepared because the people are finished hiking are in NO HURRY to actually get in the car and leave.

They change shirts and shoes, drink from their Stanley cups and take a lot of selfies before they actually depart. Have patience. You will most likely do the same at the end of your hike.

It’s a Sedona thing.

Random #3

The red dirt is for real.

Make sure you wear shoes you don’t mind staining a bit.

The paths consisted of both dirt/sand and rocks.

This can be slippery following or during precipitation so be warned.

Random #4

Like the trails in Acadia, once you start, the paths are not clear to understand. They intertwine with other trails and you may want a trail app on your phone to help navigate.

You may have someone ask you if you know how to get to the Aura.

I found that by blinking several times and looking rather old and irrelevant helped dissuade this kind of conversation.

Random #5

The views are stunning even if you don’t attempt the crazy high trails and dangerous vistas. We had fun imagining animal shapes in the formations. What do you see?

We were in awe of our Creator God and thus totally missed whatever the Aura was supposed to be about.

I feel no less for this <3

Have a blessed day.
