Does anybody really know what day it is?
How are we doing?
Russ and I went to a couple of stores on Saturday and again Sunday after the Illini game.
I would say from the ransacked and depleted shelving, American retailers did okay this year.
The crowds looked a little bedraggled. Post holiday signs were evident in the energy level and dress code of most.
The week between Christmas and New Year is always a bit of a blur, but this year it is definitely enhanced with the timing of the holidays.
I feel like we have been living nothing but weekends. We have a weekend, a regular day and then the Eve and holiday feels like a weekend. Then we have regular day and it’s the real weekend, I think….and then wash and repeat.
Russ and I frequently have to ask what day it is. Which is scary because this was a trend we noticed in my dad…but I am blaming this goofy mid week holiday schedule.
And the cookies.
Speaking of, we have almost polished off those and are just facing a couple of boxes of chocolates and one small container of Gooey Butter Cake.
I am currently finishing up the egg casserole and while it has been a delight, it is time.
Already I am working on journal pages mapping out what I hope January will look like, and it does not involve egg casseroles and cookies as a steady diet.
And this, too, is part of the holidays.
I took the photo above one night as I sat in my chair. I love the lights of the tree and will miss them. I chose the black and white filter because it seemed timeless and I want to remember this year in a special way.
I hope you are enjoying the last of the fun that is the season we love so much.
I hope you are getting some hot tea or cocoa and polishing off your own cookie stash.
I hope you are looking forward to some quiet nights with a book and a fire as we settle into winter.
I hope you remember…you know…you are dearly loved <3
