Thursday Randoms

Let’s go.

I was reminded yet again on our recent flights that I am pretty sure I have the wrong heart when they are trying to give us instructions about possible emergencies.

Every time they start the “in the event of a water landing” speech, all I can think of is how I can quickly nab important things like my wallet, phone and laptop. I imagine ways to conceal them as we are evacuating. I also consider the possibility of holding my laptop over my head as I go down the slide and enter the water.

Pretty sure that is not what the attendant demonstrating the pathetic life vest inflation tube is going for.

Anybody else struggle with anxiety pulling in the car wash.

The attendant’s hand motions and my slight bent towards directional challenges and over thinking create no small amount of stress for both of us.

It doesn’t help that I am mostly looking at his eyes to see if he is registering panic of any kind. I also have a terrible habit of putting it in reverse instead of neutral.

So far I have not sabotaged myself, but it is an emotional workout every time.

I will say that there is nothing that warms a mom’s heart more than when her kids make room for each other. It’s hard to explain but you know it when you see it and it’s the best thing ever.

You know how I seem to be the patron saint of wildlife? Like Francis of Assisi, the critters are drawn to me like a moth to a flame.

Well, they found us out here on the prairie. I thought with less trees and such we were safe, but no.

This year we had a bat that was enjoying using a porch for a rest stop every other night. Now we have the unpleasant evidence that something like a fox or coyote has claimed territory in the back of the house between sundown and sunrise.

The bat moved along once we got our porch lights fixed from a mishap with some workers out front. I have been spraying garlic infused vinegar over the grass in the evenings to deter our nocturnal guest.

We shall see if that works as well as my bat deterrent effort.

I worked in the kitchen area of our church’s cafe yesterday morning. One of my tasks was to make icing. I vaguely remember accelerating the mixer a tad too much at one point but thought I had cleaned up all the splatters.

After going several places over the course of the day and being around multiple people, imagine my delight when I glanced in the mirror late in the day and noticed chunks of icing in my bangs.

No one had said a word.

I have reached that place where apparently, having icing globs is just kind of expected.

Go me.

Have a great Thursday.

Hope I made you laugh at least once. <3

P.S.

I got my notice this morning that the payment was processed for this site. We are renewed for another year on the Journey. I started this in October of 2013. I can’t believe it has been that many years.

You all are the best part of it and I am thankful for each one of you. I am thankful for Russ to fund me all these years and for God to keep giving me ideas and beautiful moments and photos to share.

I look forward to our continued connection as we …. journey onward <3
