Some Random travel hacks <3

Happy Wednesday…seems like we are due for some randoms. These are the ones I jotted down from our vacation that I thought might be helpful.

Random #1

Rachel had this idea and it worked like a dream. Since we were driving, I was able to load up our car with some non-perishables to help cut the extremely high grocery bill that is just a part of staying along 30 A.

She suggested I cube the bread and mix the spices that are part of an egg casserole that is a fan favorite. We knew we would be getting eggs, milk and shredded cheese to use for other meals so this saved us having to buy larger amounts of bread down there and figuring out the spices.

I fixed two bags of bread cubes and put the seasoning in small snack size ziplocks that I inserted in the quart size bags of bread. These really made it easy to assemble and we were able to bake and then warm up for breakfasts.

I don’t have a photo and I don’t even own one of these, but I have seen friends use and think it is something I wish I had purchased every time we go to the beach.

It’s a plastic gizmo that has a hook for hanging over a shower head with dangling clothespins. This is great for swimsuits, face cloths if you use a special one to remove makeup and any other items that you don’t want to throw in the dryer.

Here is an example https://www.amazon.com/Clothes-Folding-Portable-underwear-Rotatable/dp/B085RGQTKZ/ref=asc_df_B085RGQTKZ/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=692875362841&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=14753640620146115295&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1016406&hvtargid=pla-2281435179818&psc=1&mcid=35bcc888cdee3a4c85c91f39abd9e221&hvocijid=14753640620146115295-B085RGQTKZ-&hvexpln=73&gad_source=1

As always, I do not receive any compensation for ordering.

Random #3

I ordered one of these travel sets on a promotion from a friend who sells Mary Kay. It has been a restock for me whenever I am running low.

I keep these tiny tubes in a travel toiletry kit that is always stashed in our linen closet. It is ready to go with the smaller sizes needed for air travel, but also great for our car trips.

Don’t let the size fool you. There are so many applications in these. I started carrying these for travel several years ago and have only had to replace twice. They don’t “spoil” and take up so little space in my travel kit.

When I ran out of one of the items that I use more often, I move the rest of the set to my morning routine to use up and ordered a replacement. I feel like I got the first set as a holiday promotion, so be on the lookout as those will be upon us soon!

Random #4

My hair and humidity are not a good mix. The repeated heat of a dryer and curling iron on beach vacations add stress to the little bit of head covering I do have.

I had been trying rollers because we are making plans to travel outside the U.S. and I was concerned about not being able to use a curling iron with the outlet adaptors we will need to have. I have heard the curling irons tend to blow on these transaction.

I discovered with practice that if I curl my hair right after drying and leave in for 45 minutes, I get body that doesn’t seem to wilt as fast.

They are easy to use and take less time to put in than trying to curl with an iron. If I am in a hurry, I can just lightly blow them with the hairdryer to speed up the process.

They worked so well for me in Florida. If you have thin, fine hair; I highly recommend. When facing humidity, just give them a good spray after removing and before fixing. Then you can add some volume with teasing and more spray.

Turns out my mom and her generation knew a thing or two that we can learn from.

Whether you are driving or flying, the ziplocks are your friend.

Stick a variety of sizes in your suitcase or down in a sack in the car.

You can use them for leftovers, to keep your phone dry and sand-free in your bag at the beach, keep things organized for games and hobbies, pack your clothes in larger ones and squish the air out to make more room in your suitcase, lock away dirty clothes when you have to pack them for the return.

I have never wished I packed less.

Bonus Random….

When Russ and I were in Florida this spring, we were going to a grocery to get some items our VRBO did not provide. I noticed a Dollar General across the parking lot from the Publix.

We decided to see what we could find there before attempting the pricier selection at the grocery. While the Dollar General in Florida was slightly higher than our local one, we found things like dishwasher detergent, a small lotion for me, dish soap, some favorite snacks and coffee filters for much cheaper.

Since we were flying, I needed a small body lotion that our host had failed to provide in the bath. This little disc was $1.25, a trusted brand and perfect to slide in my airline compliant toiletry kit. I still have product and we have been on numerous trips since I purchased.

Not every vacation spot has one conveniently located, but you can usually find one that the locals frequent off the beaten path. It’s worth googling unless you don’t mind taking out a loan for a small bottle of detergent.

Well, there you go.

Some randoms to try on your next trip. Hopefully you found something that might be useful in your travel toolbox.

Would love to hear YOUR hacks for making vacation go smoothly!
