Recap of the weekend <3

I know, I usually do randoms on Wednesday. However; since I haven’t posted for two days, I decided to catch you up on our weekend and save those randoms for tomorrow. Please do come back <3

We took a quick trip to Austin to see John. Russ scheduled an evening flight for us so we could take in Grandparents Day with the three elementary kiddos on Friday afternoon. Turns out this party ends once they hit middle school. I might need a moment….

The school made us feel special and loved and honored. Our three enjoyed showing us their work folders filled with photos and assignments that told the story of the year thus far. It was wonderful. And then we drove to St. Louis to catch our flight.

We landed very late in Austin and got to our hotel in John’s new area after midnight. After a good breakfast we headed out so John could show me his new apartment and area in a suburb of Austin. I loved it. He also treated us to lunch at the club he just joined…the Costco Club.

After that we headed to University of Texas. There was a bit of a drizzle but it didn’t dampen our spirits. We enjoyed watching the football team’s Orange and White Scrimmage. The event is free and we had seats that John would love for a regular season game. The stadium is HUGE.

He had purchased tickets for us to watch the UT/TCU baseball game, so we walked over to that stadium following the scrimmage. The facility for baseball is fantastic. Like Russ said, it rivals some AAA stadiums we have been to. While there was a drizzle for this game, we had nice seats under a canopy.

John had an event for families that evening for the place where he works, so we got to attend with him. It was a lot of fun with pizza and all kinds of fair type food and games. They had several flavors of popcorn, cotton candy, elephant ears and caramel dipped apple slices with topping. We got to meet his boss and several colleagues. They had some kind of crazy light up drink cups for the kids so guess who got one brought home to her?

On Sunday we attended John’s new church. We loved the music and the atmosphere and heard a good sermon. From there we had to have some Texas BBQ, so John took us to a favorite of his. Russ had purchased tickets for us to see the comedian Nate Bargatze’s 3:00 show so back to the UT campus we went following lunch.

We walked around a huge campus store and then found parking for the concert which was being held in the Moody Center. This is where UT plays their basketball games and it is enormous. Nate and the other comedians on tour with him were so funny. It was a lot of good fun.

Our own comedian that we raised took a “selfie” of us…har har…

Our dinner stop was Torchy’s near where John lives. Torchy’s is kind of a Texas staple and we always enjoy at least one meal there. We decided to get some ice cream to cool off our palates and then had to say our goodbyes.

As always, I was a rock. But more like the kind that water gushes from then a solid one.

Russ and I drove to a different hotel closer to the airport, dried our tears and hit the hay because our flight was the red eye at 6:30ish AM. It was a great trip and I am so thankful for these opportunities to visit our boy.

I also managed to gather some travel randoms so please come back tomorrow for those <3
