While we wait
I don’t know if it is just that I am getting older and have seen more of life or if things are just heavier for everyone, but it seems like there are a lot of people who are hurting right now. The news reports are filled with pain and suffering, but even close to home Russ and I are praying for some hard things in so many lives. And they are young lives. Lives who shouldn’t be burdened with the struggles they are facing right now.
On Sunday as we sang some worship songs, there was a peace that enveloped the room. There is a grace that attends corporate worship. Sometimes I have to stop singing and just let the voices that are far more talented than mine lift my spirit in prayer to our God.
The sermon was good, a kickoff for the Cover to Cover series where we will work through the Bible as a church family. Russ and I had been asked to be available for prayer during the last song and again I found the weight of pain for others resting on my soul. Prayers we have been praying over and over that are seemingly unanswered were released yet again as I looked around the room of friends.
As I walked back to my seat, I was reminded of a Psalm that expresses the joy of God’s people when released from captivity.
When the LORD brought back the captives to Zion, we were like men who dreamed. Our mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues with songs of joy. Then it was said among the nations, “The LORD has done great things for them.” The LORD has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy
.Psalm 126:1-6
This Psalm is one of the Psalms of Ascents. One of the collection of songs sung by those who were on pilgrimage.
Songs sung on the journey.
I whispered to God as I remembered the words of this Psalm I love so much…it’s been a while since we felt this joy, Lord.
And He whispered back that He knows.
So until we are like men who have dreamed with mouths filled with laughter, we will sing songs of joy in faith and remember the great things He has done for us while we wait <3
