Christmas Countdown 2020 Day 13

www.laurareimer.net

On this third Sunday of Advent we light a rose colored candle to reflect on Joy.

Joy is different from being happy.

Happy is great. It’s a feeling based on current experience.

Joy is something that is deeper. It is based on a spiritual understanding and confidence in what we have placed our faith and hope in.

Paul talks about his Joy in 1 Thessalonians.

In Chapter 3 he talks about the Joy that the believers in Thessalonica bring to him.

We have so much joy before our God because of you. We cannot thank Him enough for all the joy we feel.

1 Thessalonians 3: 9

Happy is fine.

When I get our house completely cleaned in one day, I am happy.

Putting out a good meal for my people and having everyone eat and be filled…this makes me happy.

Finding a great bargain, having the fridge stocked, checking off my to do list without glitches…happy.

But joy?

Joy bubbles up when I hear the line in the praise song that says He has overcome the grave and I think of all the dear ones I have lost in this world but hope to see again some day.

Joy bursts through the darkest of days when I hear God whisper over me, I am with you…you are not alone…I’ve got this and I’m holding you.

Joy rushes in when someone tells me we are going to Hell in a hand basket with all that is going wrong and I know and can declare…this world is not my final home, my friend….I am just passing through.

Joy overrides my doubts and fears and anxieties.

Joy celebrates the gift of grace and mercy that are my theme song when memories of past failures threaten to take my feet out from under me.

Joy.

Unspeakable Joy.

So this Sunday, as we light the rose candle of Advent remember your JOY is in Him and can never be taken away by circumstances.

Rejoice!

You have been given the gift of exceeding and eternal JOY <3
